SOURCES OF ON-LINE TRAVEL INFORMATION
-------------------------------------
Last revision: 04 December 1993
This is a list of online travel information resources available via the
internet. Mail additions or corrections to Brian_Lucas@umanitoba.ca.
The instructions for obtaining copies of the documents listed here follow
the URL (Universal Resource Locator) format, which is basically
"method://site.name/filepath".
For example, "ftp://ftp.cc.umanitoba.ca/rec-travel/online-info" means
"do anonymous ftp to the site ftp.cc.umanitoba.ca, and get the file
rec-travel/online-info". Gopher URLs do not always correspond to the menu
tree you see, so gopher information is listed twice wherever possible.
GNN Travel Resource Centre
--------------------------
http://nearnet.gnn.com/mkt/travel/center.html
Available only via WWW browser, the GNN Travel Resource Centre is a
good collection of information for people planning trips anywhere in
the world. It includes an extensive index to information available all
over the Internet, with some exclusive features like an up-to-date currency
exchange table, excerpts from the Travelers' Tales book series, and features
like the current-events World Travel Watch column.
Travel Library / rec.travel archive
-----------------------------------
ftp://ftp.cc.umanitoba.ca/rec-travel
WWW users: ftp://ftp.cc.umanitoba.ca/rec-travel/README.html
The Travel Library at ftp.cc.umanitoba.ca is a collection of travelogues,
guides, and FAQs written by volunteers on the net. It began as an archive
site for the rec.travel newsgroup, and emphasizes personal advice,
recommendations, and opinions, providing a different perspective from that
given by many travel books. Approximately 13 MB of documents are stored
locally; information is organized geographically and includes pointers to
other information available on the net.

soc.culture.* FAQs:
ftp://rtfm.mit.edu/pub/usenet-by-hierarchy/soc/culture/
Many of the soc.culture newsgroups have a FAQ which includes some travel
information, or contact people. Read the faq if you can, either by ftp,
by reading the soc.culture newsgroup itself, or reading news.answers.
Please restrain yourself from posting a request for information to the
newsgroup before having read the FAQ and having spent a few days at least
reading the traffic on the newsgroup to get a feel for appropriate topics.

send a mail message to listserv@trearn.bitnet consisting of the line:

send a mail message "index travel-l". To get a file mailed to you,
send a mail message "send travel-l log9111", subsituting the name of
the log file you want.
